Vantablack And Its Uses

Spraying a HyperShift Over Musou Black (The World’s Blackest Paint)

Since its invention in 2014, Vantablack has been a highly desired product for many companies. The most common use of the pigment is to coat cameras and other optical instruments because it absorbs 99% of the light that hits the surface. This makes any imperfections invisible from far away making optical lenses much more clear. Additionally, this material can also be used for artistic purposes.

Vantablack has many industrial and scientific uses such as making solar panels more efficient by reducing the amount of light they reflect back into space or increasing spectral absorption of photovoltaic cells in energy harvesting devices.

Vantablack was originally designed for satellite-borne earth observation equipment and high performance solar cells. It has also been used to reduce stray light in the Hubble telescope, as well as for aerospace applications where it can help keep sensitive optics free from stray reflections which could interfere with spectroscopy experiments being conducted on board spacecraft.

The pigment is so dark that the human eye cant even distinguish a physical form in its shape, allowing artists to paint incredible shapes and patterns onto surfaces without them appearing flat.

It’s Nearly As Dark As The Vantablack Paint Used In Aerospace

Year after year, the world’s most popular car colors based on sales volume are white, black, and grey. But if you want the darkest of all the black paint jobs in the world, then you should turn your attention to Japan, specifically to Koyo Orient Japan and its Musou Black paint.

The Musou Black paint is regarded to be among the worlds blackest water-based acrylic paint. In the video embedded above, a Porsche 911 has been painted with the Musou Black paint, courtesy of Pit One with the help of Koyo Orient.

/10 3 They Painted A Bmw X6 With It

The BMW X6 was recently painted in Vantablack for the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show. It is currently being showcased in a room with strange lighting and subtle fog to make it seem like it hopped straight out of the future. It is a strange sight to see as the car almost seems to fade into the background of the room.

They left the lights and the grill untouched, but it only adds to the magic as they seem to appear to float in space. They even used a version of this paint that reflects 1% more light back at its user, but to the naked eye, it makes little difference.

The YouTube channel host said the finished car does not look real and that he has never seen anything like the Musou results. He likened it to real-life being photoshopped. He is clearly amazed at the results.

In another video, a YouTuber hand brushes an apple with the Musou Black paint. Again, the paint did what it does. None of the contours or ripples on the skin of the apple are visible. That video is below.

It is important to note here that the Musou Black paint is not suggested for painting cars. In fact, the host of the DIPYourCar video advised against it. He said it seems like a delicate paint and does not know how durable it is. Regardless, it is still a pretty remarkable product. Hopefully, there will be a follow-up video soon. I can hear the wheels turning of all those people looking to make their own Nightshade edition cars.

Black Cherry Pearl Paint

Black cherry pearl paint is a dark, rich color that can give your car a luxurious look. It can be difficult to keep clean, but it will make your car stand out from the crowd.

To make it shine the brightest, this paint is made of ceramic crystals. Thats why it shines more deeply than even the black metallic paint. Also, it reflects and refracts light thats why it is a paint thats mostly used in deluxe vehicles.

You should apply this type of black paint if you want to give your car a fantastic look. It produces a deep black and shiny color that metallic options cannot even match. Just get a reliable and professional company who knows how to use it, and your vehicle will properly look great.

/10 5 It Has No Reflection

This substance literally has no reflection, which is what makes it so unique. This is what makes it so desirable, especially to space communities where light can affect their results. It is almost impossible to see due to this feature and is one of the main reasons why the contours of objects seem to disappear when they are painted this color. It strips them of their identity as the reflection we use to identify corners seemingly disappears before our very eyes under the constraint of the carbon nanotubes.

/10 1 Companies Plan To Use It On Headsup Displays Or Camera Lenses

It is obvious that BMW didn’t paint it onto their car for nothing, but instead have bigger plans in store for this product. They see the potential in it for their headsup displays and other reflective surfaces inside of the vehicle that can be distracting for drivers.

The Vantablack paint would cut down on the reflections and give drivers a better view of the roadway, as well as reduce glares off of devices within the car. The touchpad screens many vehicles have upgraded to would be helped immensely if they found some way to attach Vantablack to these surfaces.

What Car Paint Color Lasts The Longest

White color lasts the longest compared to other types, including black. Why is that the case? Well, white is easy to keep clean and maintain provided you keep it free from scratches/marks, they will always look new.

However, you should note that while there are colors that last the longest, other factors also play a role in durability. You can have the best types of paints for your car, but you are likely to paint often with poor maintenance. So, get the best paint and keep your car from agents that cause damage to paints.

Why Is Vantablack So Expensive

Vantablack S base price for a coating of 100cm squared can cost thousands of dollars. The reason the paint is so expensive relates to how its manufactured and why this high cost cannot be reduced by increasing quantities, as explained here:

The price of Vantablack is a direct result of the research and development costs that have been invested in refining the production process. The high cost cannot be reduced by increasing quantities, because at present it takes around 100 hours to grow a layer one centimeter thick on a substrate. This means there is no possibility for batch manufacture at present.

The high cost of Vantablack can be attributed to the fact its grown on substrates like aluminum foil, which is very thin and therefore requires time for each layer applied.

Is Vantablack Illegal

Vantablack is not illegal to use. However, painting your car with Vantablack S-VIS, the sprayable paint that employs randomly aligned carbon nanotubes and has high absorption in the visible light range, will cost around $300,000. This blackest black is exclusively owned by Anish Kapoors studio for artistic use.

Youtuber Paints Car In Musou Black

DipYourCar is a YouTube channel that focuses on painting cars and parts in a removable paint. The paint forms a coating that can be peeled, making a cars color change easy. Fans of the YouTube channel have been asking DipYourCar to lay down a coating of Vantablack on a car. The creators have not been able to. But, when Musou Black was introduced, they decided to try it out. Thankfully, they uploaded the process and the results in a video .

The finished car is stunning. When rolled out into the light, the vehicle has body features that are hard to define. It almost looks like a photoshop of a mystery car, where a black silhouette is overlaid on a vehicle to hide its features. In fact, the black wheels on the car provided more reflection and definition than the paint on the car. All body panel creases and curves seem gone.

The Musou Black paint reflects 0.6 percent of light , which explains the uber black color. This way, it devoid the car of its details and creases, almost turning the coupe into a two-dimensional figure or a shadow. Frankly, it’s disconcerting and looks unreal, and it’s probably not a good idea to drive this car at night.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a car painted with the Musou Black paint. Back in December 2020, a Mitsubishi Lancer also received the same paint job and it’s equally weird to look at. Of note, the Musou Black paint job was developed and released by Koyo Orient in September 2020.

The Paint Called Musou Black Has A Light Absorption Rate Of 994 Per Cent And Can Turn A Car Into A Rolling Black Hole

Last year, BMW made headlines with its Vantablack X6, which was capable of absorbing 99.965 per cent of all light that falls on it. This would make it the darkest object on the street, if it were to be seen on the streets. Surrey NanoSystems, the creators of Vantablack paint, have stated that the paint isnt really meant for automobiles, and it isnt for sale to private individuals. Even if it were, its far too expensive.

Some people just love the forbidden fruit though, and theyve found an alternative to Vantablack paint. Here, we have a video, posted by DipYourCar, which shows us the next best thing, called Mosou Black, painted on to a Mitsubishi Lancer. Produced by Japans KoPro, this paint isnt meant for cars either, but it is available for purchase.

Compared to Vantablack, Musou black isnt as effective at absorbing rays. The latter only absorbs 99.4 per cent light, but hey, who can tell the difference, right? We see the entire painting process in the video, which wasnt too hard the vlogger simply pours the paint into a spray gun canister, loads it, and sprays away.

A total of five coats of paint are applied to the car, but the paint is seemingly too delicate to be practical. It forms a powdery layer after drying, and can easily gloss or peel off after light contact with anything. On the road, exposed to the elements, it wouldnt take much to destroy the paint job. That said, the final product does look amazing, even if for a short duration!

/10 6 It Makes Objects Look Two

The objects painted with this paint lose their three-dimensional shape and begin to look two-dimensional. It is almost as if the contours and lines of the face pictured above no longer exist as they were sucked into oblivion.

We hope no one ever figures out how to make this into a clothing line as it will change the game of thievery forever in terms of their escape. This image shows the extent the paint has on an object and it is truly remarkable we have come this far in our experimentation with pigments.

The Blackest Porsche 911 Ever Is Even Blacker Than Vantablack

It absorbs almost 100% of light.

Porsche offers one of the most expansive color pallets of any automaker. You can even view most of Porsche’s fabulous paint-to-sample options on the online configurator. But even the master of the ‘Rennbow’ doesn’t offer Vantablack, the blackest, black known to man. BMW experimented with this unreal color on an X6 a few years ago, and now a Japanese Porsche owner has applied something similar on their 911. The results are hauntingly spectacular.

The car in question is a Porsche 911 Turbo, specifically a 991 generation model. It began life with standard black paint before being sprayed in Musou Black, a water-based acrylic paint. Most black acrylic absorbs anywhere from 94-98% of visible light, but Musou Black absorbs a whopping 99.905%. That means it’s darker than Vantablack.

This is the same paint that was previously used on a Lancer Evo to create the world’s darkest Mitsubishi. Covering an entire car in this stuff isn’t cheap, as a single one-liter bottle costs over $132. Since the video is in Japanese, we aren’t sure how much of the stuff was required for the 911. After professionally wrapping and spraying the car, the 911 Turbo is taken out and driven on the streets of Japan. It almost looks like the car was photoshopped into the rest of the video.

/10 8 It Was Originally Designed For Use In Space

This product was originally developed to be used to aid in space exploration and it made its debut back in 2016 aboard the Kent Ridge 1. This paint was a gamechanger for the project as it gave the device better capabilities to track its position based on nearby stars.

It minimizes light interference that helps create a more accurate tracking system like nothing the world has ever seen before. It has enhanced our ability to explore realms beyond our reach and further our knowledge on what else is out there for us to explore.

/10 9 It Was Licensed For Artistic Use

It was created by Surrey Nanosystems, but Anish Kapoor was the one to monopolize it for the artist industry. He owns the only rights to the substance as it pertains to artwork, and that left several others in the trade quite unhappy. He created watches with the material, but other artists were quite upset at this arrangement and decided to take matters into their own hands.

A man named Stuart Semple he called The Pinkest Pink and said everyone could buy it except for Anish Kapoor, even though he got his hands on it anyways. Semple has then gone on to create several kickstarts to create a substance darker than Vantablack and we have yet to see his results.

How Expensive Is Musou Black

Musou Black can be purchased in Japan for about $25, but you will have to pay for shipping. Vantablack is not available in Japan. Also, each bottle comes with a warning that reads dont become a ninja by using this paint.. The idea is obviously a joke, but there are some good questions to be asked.
